Farm School

Farm School is a six week program for kids in grades K thru 12th.  It will be the parent’s choice as to when the child is ready for this program. Students will participate in both a classroom setting as well as outdoor activities. The student needs to be able to sit still for class time, listen for safety, and have a desire to complete the tasks assigned. A sample day is available for viewing so that you can decide if your child is ready. Please feel free to contact us for any special questions regarding readiness.

Topics included in first six week program:

-What is the farm and why do we need farms?

-What is soil?

-What does a plant need?

-How does an egg become a chicken, duck, goose or turkey?

-What is a ruminant?

-Farming around the world.

A snapshot of a day in Farm School

10:30-11:00 Arrival and discussion of today’s topic. Handing out of supplies needed for the day.

11:00-11:30 Hands on group activity. For example: soil collection and analyzing for “What is soil”? This is a great opportunity for the older kids to help guide the younger kids.

11:30-12:15 Lunch and Exploration (Picnic style if weather permits)

12:15-1:00 Group will split according to age ranges to complete an activity. For example the K-5 may be completing a flow chart via printable on how an egg develops. The older group may be at the incubator candling eggs. When the older group is done, we will switch. The older printable will be more detailed and may contain analytical questions regarding hatching or fertilization of an egg.

1:00-1:30 Outside activity (such as exploration of the different water areas we have for evidence of erosion, and pollution.)

1:30-2:00 A group activity to tie it all together. For example: a game of trivia over what a ruminant is. We will have our snack during this time as well.

2:00 Parent arrival (if you did not stay) and departure of students.

Rules at the Farm (we will go over this day 1)

Respect: we respect each other, the animals, the land and ourselves.

Engage: Try each activity. If you don’t like it that is ok, but try.

Be safe: Always listen when activity and daily rules are being explained.

Cost for the program:

Registration fee: $20 per family (Remember we have to provide bathrooms and electricity for each student)

Class fee: $20 per child per class (This covers our time and supplies)

What you will need to provide:

-A lunch and several snacks (Please be aware of any posting I make related to food allergies!)
